Pot Lesson 5

2 more brush or pencil containers.
This shows painting on the slurry (formally called goop)
to a scored piece of clay. This is how the bottom is attached.

This says harmony in Chinese Calligraphy.
The stuff I painted on is called ON GO.

This is pretend Chinese Calligraphy.
It says, PAINT BRUSHES.
Check out Valerie's cool brush,
it's made of wolf or goat hair.

Tarantula

The cat didn't want him so we took him
way, way, way, way, way, down the hill.

Pottery Day 4

I wanted to make containers to keep brushes and pens.
Valerie taught me a slab technique.
We rolled out the clay, cut rectangles and
rolled it around pipe tubing wrapped with newspaper.
The tubing is shown below behind my containers.

I pressed a piece of stone into the container on the left
to give it some texture, then smoothed it out a bit.
A cone or some dried plant thing
was used on the jar on the right.

This black tool was custom made for Valerie.
We used it to cut an angle on the edges of the slabs.
We scored the edge with a fork and
brushed wet goop on the scored areas.
This helps the two sides seal nicely.

Pottery

3rd pottery lesson with Valerie.
I made a saucer for my flower pot.
I needed a lot of help with this saucer,
I kept making air bubbles.
NOT with my mouth, in the clay.

DOUBLE HUGENESS

My sketchbook is so HUGE
I can't scan a whole page.
I get a little self conscious
when I take it out, open it,
and set it on my lap.
Now, it's
DOUBLE HUGE.
There were only 3 of us
in the waiting room
so I had the courage to
sketch this man across from me.
He reminded me of a pirate.
He wore a striped shirt,
matching pants,
and an extra wide leather belt
almost up to his chest.
I wonder why he was there.

Red, White and Blue

This man was at the
Old Fashioned Fourth of July event in my community.

We have an old Railroad Barn which runs a 1907 Baldwin on the weekends.

There was a Dixieland Band

and a craft fair.

This man was selling his hand crafted furniture.
